Congratulations! You were hired to join the Happy Medium social media team as an intern! That’s awesome, I know you’re excited. This job is a lot of fun, this office is so trendy, and you’re not going to want to leave come April. By the way, this is you at the conclusion of your internship. I just wanted you to know that you’re actually going to enjoy this job.
Though you are super quiet and like to keep to yourself, your coworkers will make sure you feel comfortable, and they will make sure you have plenty to do to fill your time and get the most out of this experience. These coworkers will be great connections in the future. They’re nice people; you should talk to them more. They will be giving you a lot of the dirty work, scheduling content calendars, researching and reporting. You won’t be doing just that for your entire internship…you’ll end up doing that AND MORE! You’ll get to take photos and create graphics for clients, create content calendars and keep up-to-date with what’s going on in the social media world. Even your dog will get to participate in some Happy Medium work. Oh yeah, you get a dog—his name is Mack.
Oftentimes, people will bring in leftover snacks or there will be little treats for coworker’s birthdays—those snacks are free, TAKE ONE! Don’t pass up a brownie no matter how bad “you don’t need it.” You always need it, life gets stressful. You’re living a busy life—your new internship, being a fulltime student and being involved with other duties on to do on campus. Do work at work, do school at school. You’re here for a short time, make the most of it. You are going to have failures and triumphs. You will have to redo some work 10 times, whereas some will leave people in awe. Be confident and persistent in your work. Do great work.
This internship is going to open a lot of opportunities for you. You are going to leave here with so much more experience in these short eight months than you have in the past three years of school. You will apply yourself to a “real life” job better than any class can teach you about a job like this. This will be the most challenging and the most rewarding opportunity of your life up to this point. Not only has this internship opened doors for you, but it has really steered you in the direction you’ve been searching for. At the beginning of your internship, you were just looking for something different than what you had been doing before, but you will find a love for this industry and that’s exciting. Happy Medium is a great company and has set the bar high for your future job search.
Good luck, and enjoy the next eight months!
